History of the Design
Bakhita Gardens serves women exiting homelessness through two Catholic Housing Services programs. With tow main programs named Rose of Lima and Noel House they are providing safe shelter for women and children in downtown Seattle.
For past couple years I worked in many design project for this awesome organization. I tried to bring a new perspective for their vision and help them to make their voices heard little bit brighter as much as I could.
Since the day that I started to design their project I realized they might need to do some adjustment in their visual and presentation side, to create attractive and fun materials for their internal use or representation.
The old logo was a vertical image of tow hands holding each other with dark color tones.
So I decided to share my point of view and I create a new logo that could be a good replacement while still representing their mission and vision.
Design Process
We decided to use a vertical logo to give message of equality instead. So it can shows a both way interaction between societies members. I tried to give a symbolic freedom and paramount feeling with a parallel wings look.
After some sketching and rough draft our logo got a shape that we really liked it. It had everything that could represent their vision and mission except a soul. It needed some magic touch to revive, and that was colors…
Typography
I decided to use some symbolic colors for hope and future and we agreed on green and sky blue. Also we need to agree on some font style that can represent a serious organization while includes positive character. So we used “Copperplate Bold” for our main titles and “Arial Regular” for subtitle parts.
